The iPhone 4 is the consummation of years of refining Apple’s iPhone line of products. iOS jailbreaking is a process that authorize the devices running Apple's iOS operating system (such as the iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, and recently Apple TV) to gain complete access to unlock all features of the said operating system, thereby removing limitations imposed by Apple. Once jailbroken, iOS users are able to download additional applications, extensions and themes that are unavailable through the official Apple App Store.
Dev-Team has released the official version of jailbreak tool PwnageTool 4.2. The steps for jailbreaking iPhone4 follow here:
1. Download PwnageTool 4.2 for MAC OS. Link : http://dl.twiios.com/pwnagetool/PwnageTool_4.2.dmg
2. Download iOS 4.2.1. link : http://appldnld.apple.com/iPhone4/061-9858.20101122.Er456/iPhone3,1_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw
3. After downloading both the files you must kept it in the same folder. For that, create a folder named ‘Pwnage’ on your desktop and copy both files in it.
4. If you are using DMG file double click on it to get the launch icon.
5. Launch PwnageTool 4.2
6. You can see a copyright warning from iPhone dev-team. Accept it my clicking ‘OK’ button.
7. On the next screen you can see 4 icons on the top of the menu bar. Select ‘Expert Mode’.
8. You will be asked to select the iOS device for jailbreaking. PwnageTool 4.2 supports iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G, iPod Touch 4G, 3G, iPad, Apple TV 2G. In this tutorial we are selecting iPhone 4.
9. On the next screen you will be asked for IPSW file location. Browse to the ‘pwnage’ folder that created earlier and click on ‘Open’.
10. Next screen you can see some icons for your firmware file customization. Choose according to your requirements. General->Activate the phone (Select the check box if you are not willing to use the official carrier). After completing the file customizations click on the ‘Build’ icon.
11. You will be prompted to save the custom copy of your IPSW file. You must save it to the ‘pwnage’ folder on your desktop.
12. Be patient for some minutes. It will take about 10-15 minutes for building custom IPSW files.
13. On the next step you will be asked to enter them administrative password. Enter it and click ‘OK’.
14. After that you can connect your iPhone with the computer. PwnageTool will automatically detect your iOS device and ask you to put the device in DFU mode. Follow the instruction to enter your device into DFU mode.
15. Once your iPhone has been successfully entered in DFU mode, PwnageTool will ask you to launch iTunes. After launching iTunes hold the option key or Alt key and click ‘Restore’
16. Browse to the ‘pwnage’ folder on your desktop and select the custom IPSW files.
17. Restore process will also take about 10-15mins. Once the restoration complete iTunes will reboot your iPhone.
